Wednesday 9th June - walk ***** - Nacton Shore circuit – sunny and hot.

Yet another hot sunny day but with a faint chance there might be a sea breeze later so spent the morning at home, the usual exercises for me with gardening for Mag, the garden is absolutely stunning at the moment, Mag is a star:) Had another yummy toasted sandwich for lunch, got fed up of waiting for the sea breeze to arrive so made a flask and headed over to Nacton Shore on the banks of the River Orwell for afternoon tea and cake, picking up a large mirror Mag found on the internet for the garden which was free:) You could smell the river before you could see it as the tide was low and the weed was baking in the hot sunshine! Although the small car park was pretty full, it was nice and quiet down by the river. We found a bench for out picnic with the big house behind us with lovely views across the river to Pin Mill. It was nice to see several people out enjoying the river path on bikes even though you are not supposed to cycle it, we can’t see anything wrong with biking on footpaths as long as you are considerate to walkers! We then did a loop along the Orwell, taking the cliff route nearly to Levington Creek and back along the beach past all the fallen trees with Buzzards overhead, also a green woodpecker and a few birds feeding in the mud including an egret, oyster catchers, red shanks and gulls with a few yachts and an old wooden barge making slow progress up river against the tide! Despite the lovely sunny hot weather June has been a terrible month for wind and it would be nice to get out on the water again, hopefully Friday is looking promising for a bit of a breeze????
